The company was originally founded as CV Central Foods Industrial Corporation (abbreviated Central Foods) on February 16, 1974 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The company was originally owned by the Chu brothers - Chu Sam Yak (Chandra Djojonegoro) and Chu Sok Sam - Chinese-Indonesian conglomerates and businessmen from Medan. Initially their flagship product was SOY SAUCE ABC (with sweet, medium and salty variants). Then they expanded their products to ABC Syrup, ABC Ketchup and ABC Sambal. In 1982, the company's name was changed to PT Aneka Bina Cipta Central FoodIndustry, or abc foods.
In the 1980s ABC products, such as syrup, sweet soy sauce and sambal began to lead indonesia's market share. The product is marketed abroad, exported to the United States, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Timor Leste, Malaysia, Brunei, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Denmark, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. The expansion was also carried out by the company by building a joint venture in the food sector, namely PT ABC President Food Enterprises which is engaged in instant noodle and beverage factories in collaboration with Uni-President Foods Taiwan and PT Danone Biscuits Indonesia with Danone which produces biscuits. From what was originally only a variety of sauces and syrups, in the 1990s then launched a variety of boxed beverage products, canned sardines, corned beef and cooking oil. Along with the changing business climate, in February 1999 the Djojonegoro family decided to sell its 65% stake in the company to H. J. Heinz Company for US $ 70 million. As the company's name changed to PT Heinz ABC Indonesia.
